Legal protection and registration of videogames in Peru

Nowadays, technology has become a great business which brings in millions of dollars in revenue all over the world, and Peru is no exception. Proof of it, is the continues growth of the video game industry, which in 2018 developed nearly 600 titles and in 2017 generated profits of S/7.1 million.
In view of this scenario, the authorities of the Copyright Directorate (DDA) have established protectionist rules for the work of creators and developers of video games, allowing them to obtain greater benefits at the time of their launch to the market.
The DDA recognizes two types of rights for authors, those of a moral nature and those of an economic nature.
Moral rights are recognized in perpetuity, considering within this classification Paternity (recognition of the author as such), Integrity and Disclosure.
In the case of the economic rights, when a third party is interested in obtaining benefits from the use of a work (video game), must previously obtain a license or assignment contract, due to the fact that the reproduction, distribution, public communication and transformation rights may be affected.
