Indecopi Blocks 238 Illegal Websites Streaming the 2026 World Cup in Peru

The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) has ordered the blocking, from Peru, of 238 illegal websites that had been unlawfully streaming matches of the 2026 World Cup.

In compliance with Resolution No. 0333-2026/CDA-Indecopi, the execution of the mandate took place on July 10, following coordination between the Copyright Commission and internet service providers. The measure was adopted to protect users and strengthen vigilance against digital piracy.

According to investigations conducted by the authorities, it was determined that the shut-down websites and platforms were streaming unlawfully by retransmitting the matches without authorization, or by providing users with "linking" services through directories that facilitate quick connection to the match broadcasts, representing a clear infringement of the broadcasting rights acquired by the licensed companies. Additionally, these sites committed the offense of exploiting protected content, directly and severely impacting the audiovisual industry on a large scale.
