Artisanal production of Cannabis for medicinal purposes is authorized in Peru

The process of artisanal production of Cannabis and its derivatives for medicinal purposes has been authorized through Law No. 31312. In addition, the norm not only empowers patient associations or those designated as their legal representatives to carry out the transformation stage, but they may also take charge of the seeding, transport and storage phase.

A step prior to the beginning of the aforementioned activities, by the associations, is to obtain their respective licenses, for which they must comply with their registration in the 'Registry of patients who use cannabis and its derivatives for medicinal and therapeutic use', thus adding to the list of importing and marketing natural or legal persons.

In the case of the production and supply of inputs for cannabis research for medicinal and therapeutic purposes, the authorization is the exclusive competence of the General Directorate of Medicines, Inputs and Drugs, the National Institute of Health of the Ministry of Health.
